Izumi makes ecologically-sound handmade items. When I met her, she was carrying a journal she had made using a Western-style binding called codex. She also showed me a beautiful wool scarf made from the threads of waste sheep wool she had carded and hand-spun.
Izumi says that products are adversely affected during the manufacturing process because an unnecessary stress is put on the materials. She believes that wearing something that has not been given too much pressure can open up people’s mind and take away pain.
She is a graduate of spiritual theology from Regent college, the graduate school of theology in UBC. She works at International Student Ministries Canada (ISMC) and helps international students to improve their lives in Canada.
